Lessons Learned from Hundreds of FundAminos Users

In my last installment on the topic of essential amino acids(EAA's), I wanted to share more on the topic of how you can improve your performance and recovery with FundAminos.

But first a quick review.

In Part 1, the Protein Primer, I discussed how all proteins are not created equal.  Some have a higher ‘biological value’ than others because they have a better balance of the eight, essential amino acids our bodies need for cellular energy and function.

Organic, grass-fed meats, wild fish, poultry, and whole eggs are good examples of high biological value proteins.  Whey and soy proteins, casein, nuts and egg whites
have a lower biological value because they contain a less than optimal mix of the eight essential amino acids and are more difficult for the body to use. On the other hand, a properly-balanced essential amino acid formula can have a biological value of 99% making it four times more readily-available than even the highest biological value proteins.

In Part 2, I discussed the three main reasons why the use of an EAA supplement during or after exercise has been demonstrated to Increase muscle strength, power, and recovery:

1.  EAA’s  prevent muscle breakdown in times of physical and mental stress.
2.  EAA’s enhance and protect mitochondrial energy production.
3.  EAA’s drive muscular growth and repair

Now, in Part 3, we'll focus on how an EAA formula like FundAminos can best be used. To start off, I want to share the following information from Core 4 client Mark Lamendola of www.mindconnection.com:

"My ideal workouts are short and of high-intensity, as this is what stimulates the adaptive response that results in new muscle.  The catch is your body needs the building materials available to build that muscle and promote recovery.  After an initial rise of cortisol (due to workout stress), your endocrine system switches over to a high testosterone state.  That's when your body will burn fat and build muscle. And that's when I use FundAminos."

As eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney says, "you want to stimulate, not annihilate, the muscles.  So train properly and time your amino intake for when your body is most ready to use those materials.  A great way to take advantage of the various absorption times of different compounds is to spike your pre-workout supplement with FundAminos.  While foods and healthy digestion can provide these nutrients, the rapid and complete absorption of FundAminos is incomparable."

Use FundAminos to take your performance and recovery to the next level by following these three, simple rules:

Rule #1.  For rapid and complete absorption, take FundAminos alone and on an empty stomach.

At a minimum, take FundAminos 30 minutes prior or two hours after a meal.

If you take FundAminos with food, the fats, protein, and fiber found in those foods will interfere with (and significantly slow down) your body's ability to absorb EAA's. Know that it's perfectly fine to add a few ounces of fruit juice (a simple carbohydrate) for added flavor.

Rule#2.  Using FundAminos once a day use is great, but greater benefits can be achieved by using it twice a day, two to three hours away from other proteins.

Two daily doses of 5 to 10 grams of FundAminos will allow you to maintain the consistently-high serum (blood bound) levels of essential amino acids your body needs for cellular energy and repair.

Depending on your level of activity and exposure to stress, use ½ to 1 scoop of FundAminos,  twice daily in 12 to 16 ounces of water.  The best times of day tend to be first thing in the morning; prior to, during, or immediately following physical activity; or a few hours before dinner or before bedtime.

Rule#3.  Find the flavor and dosage concentration that works best for you!

Part of the reason why there aren't more powdered EAA formulas on the market is that, without the proper flavoring, they taste terrible!  Most companies use artificial flavors and sweeteners (like aspartame and sucralose) to disguise their bitterness.  Others have given up on making their formulas taste good and have opted to encapsulate or tablet their products.  But taking 5 to 10 grams of these formulas twice daily is unpleasant, impractical, and expensive.

After five attempts to refine and improve the flavor of FundAminos, we have created an EAA powder that tastes pretty good!  Having said that, there is still room for improvement.  As luck would have it, I recently stumbled upon a new flavor solution that will make FundAminos taste even better, especially when iced or cold.  And this new ingredient will actually improve the product's performance and recovery benefits. Watch for this next-generation formula to become available during the next 4 to 6 months.

In the meantime, here are some hacks for improving the taste of our current formula:

1. Add a squirt of lemon or a shot of tart fruit juice or powder such as pomegranate, blueberry, or cherry

2. Reduce the concentration by either adding more water or using less powder. Instead of 1 scoop in 12 ounces, use ¼ to ½ scoop in 16 ounces of fluid taken twice daily.

Lastly, here is a great blended recipe that I have been using for a summer afternoon pick-me-up:

1 scoop FundAminos
½ scoop cherry or pomegranate powder or couple ounces of juice
2 to 3 frozen strawberries
1 to 2 slices of lemon or lime (rind removed)
2 to 4 ice cubes
12 ounces of water

Blend and enjoy.
